KBI Biopharma’s management team includes seasoned executives with experience in the contract biomanufacturing and pharmaceutical industries.

 

Joseph T. McMahon
President and CEO
Joe joined KBI Biopharma in 2002 and previously served as its VP, Operations and Business Development. Prior to joining KBI Biopharma, Joe was VP Human Resources at Diosynth Biotechnology (previously know as Covance Biotechnology Services). At Diosynth Biotechnology, he was integral to the growth of the operation from a six-person start-up in 1995, through facility construction and validation, to a 600 person FDA inspected business in 2002. Joe also previously directed the engineering and technical services groups at Becton Dickinson and was managing director of a national biotechnology recruiting practice focusing on scientific and executive positions for life science clients.

 

Khurshid Iqbal, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President, Biopharmaceutical Development and CSO
Khurshid has over 25 years of domestic and international experience in pharmaceutical product development, including 12 INDs and 6 NDAs. Prior to joining KBI Biopharma, Khurshid has worked within the leading multinational pharmaceutical organizations such as R.W. Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute, Hoffmann-La Roche, E.R. Squibb & Sons and most recently as Senior Vice President, West Pharmaceuticals, a leading drug delivery and device organization. Khurshid earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacokinetics from The University of Sciences, Philadelphia (formerly The Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science) and has remained active in the field of biopharmaceutical formulation development and stabilization of proteins and peptides. Khurshid has published consistently in this field. He was elected as the section chair of the Biotec section of The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, (AAPS) in 1992 and has remained active with the growth of this section at AAPS. He is a member of the Society of the Sigma Xi, AAPS, PDA and Controlled Release Society.

 

Nicholas J. Leb
Vice President of Finance and CFO
Nick is a proven financial executive with considerable experience in accounting, finance, treasury and investor relations. His background includes "Big 4" public accounting, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment manufacturing and equipment leasing. Nick was co-founder of a specialty pharmaceutical sales and marketing company. This company was later sold, and the combined companies went public in a subsequent IPO. Nick previously held positions as the Vice President, Finance for Accentia BioPharmaceuticals, TEAMM Pharmaceuticals, Brightstone Pharma and Global Surgical Corporation and held the position of Corporate Controller for KV Pharmaceuticals.

 

Timothy M. Kelly, Ph.D.
Vice President, Biopharmaceutical Development
Tim has over 15 years of experience in protein and nucleic acid characterization. Prior to joining KBI Biopharma, Tim held the position of Director of Quality Control for Diosynth Biotechnology. He has considerable experience in the development, validation, and transfer of analytical methods for proteins. Tim’s experience includes development, characterization and production of more than 30 clinical and commercial protein therapeutics, including monoclonal antibodies, enzymes, fusion proteins and PEGylated proteins. Tim earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Georgia State University. He is a member of AAPS and PDA.

 

Kathy S. Lee
Vice President Quality and Regulatory
Kathy is highly experienced in quality management and compliance for biopharmaceutical development and production. In her previous roles Kathy hosted successful FDA pre-approval inspections and international regulatory inspections on behalf of several clients. Kathy previously directed both Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions for Diosynth Biotechnology and Quality Assurance at North American Vaccine. She also brings considerable experience in program management and customer relations. Kathy has been in biotechnology for more than 20 years and started her career in development roles with Life Technologies and Genetic Therapy (a Novartis subsidiary). She is a member of PDA.

 

Harold Ross, MBA
Vice President, Process Development and Manufacturing
Harold has over 25 years of Process Development and Manufacturing experience with E.I. DuPont, DuPont Pharmaceuticals, Cephalon, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Cardinal Health. During his career, Harold has been responsible for both upstream and downstream activities, including process development, scale up and cGMP Manufacturing utilizing all of the major expression systems including E. coli, yeast, mammalian, and insect cells.
