Joseph T. McMahon
President and CEO
Joe joined KBI Biopharma in 2002 and previously served as its VP, Operations and Business Development. Prior to joining KBI Biopharma, Joe was VP Human Resources at Diosynth Biotechnology (previously know as Covance Biotechnology Services). At Diosynth Biotechnology, he was integral to the growth of the operation from a six-person start-up in 1995, through facility construction and validation, to a 600 person FDA inspected business in 2002. Joe also previously directed the engineering and technical services groups at Becton Dickinson and was managing director of a national biotechnology recruiting practice focusing on scientific and executive positions for life science clients.

Khurshid Iqbal, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President, Biopharmaceutical Development and CSO
Khurshid has over 25 years of domestic and international experience in pharmaceutical product development, including 12 INDs and 6 NDAs. Prior to joining KBI Biopharma, Khurshid has worked within the leading multinational pharmaceutical organizations such as R.W. Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute, Hoffmann-La Roche, E.R. Squibb & Sons and most recently as Senior Vice President, West Pharmaceuticals, a leading drug delivery and device organization. Khurshid earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacokinetics from The University of Sciences, Philadelphia (formerly The Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science) and has remained active in the field of biopharmaceutical formulation development and stabilization of proteins and peptides. Khurshid has published consistently in this field. He was elected as the section chair of the Biotec section of The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, (AAPS) in 1992 and has remained active with the growth of this section at AAPS. He is a member of the Society of the Sigma Xi, AAPS, PDA and Controlled Release Society.

James Chopas, CPA
Vice President of Finance and CFO
Jim Chopas has over 12 years of experience in the clinical contract research industry. Prior to joining KBI Biopharma, Jim was CFO of Cenduit LLC, a joint venture between Quintiles Transnational and Thermo Fisher Scientific, and held senior management positions at Thermo Fisher Scientific, PAREXEL International, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ernst & Young. Jim has substantial experience in profitability improvement initiatives, acquisitions, restructurings, strategic planning and financial management. Jim holds a Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems degree from Bentley College and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration degree from the University of Massachusetts.

Timothy M. Kelly, Ph.D.
Vice President, Biopharmaceutical Development
Tim has over 15 years of experience in protein and nucleic acid characterization. Prior to joining KBI Biopharma, Tim held the position of Director of Quality Control for Diosynth Biotechnology. He has considerable experience in the development, validation, and transfer of analytical methods for proteins. Tim’s experience includes development, characterization and production of more than 30 clinical and commercial protein therapeutics, including monoclonal antibodies, enzymes, fusion proteins and PEGylated proteins. Tim earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Georgia State University. He is a member of AAPS and PDA.

Kathy S. Lee
Vice President Quality and Regulatory
Kathy is highly experienced in quality management and compliance for biopharmaceutical development and production. In her previous roles Kathy hosted successful FDA pre-approval inspections and international regulatory inspections on behalf of several clients. Kathy previously directed both Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions for Diosynth Biotechnology and Quality Assurance at North American Vaccine. She also brings considerable experience in program management and customer relations. Kathy has been in biotechnology for more than 20 years and started her career in development roles with Life Technologies and Genetic Therapy (a Novartis subsidiary). She is a member of PDA.

Dirk T. Lange
Vice President, Global Strategic Alliances
Dirk has 15+ years of experience in biopharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing. Prior to joining KBI Biopharma, Dirk held leadership positions in Operations, Project Management and Commercial Development at Rentschler Biotechnologie in Germany where he was integral to the growth of the Fill and Finish division. Dirk has extensive experience in formulation, aseptic processing of liquid and lyophilized vials and prefilled syringes, and has directed well over 1,000 clinical and commercial manufacturing campaigns, including numerous pre-approval inspections with both the FDA and the EMEA.

Michael J. Cavanaugh
Senior Vice President, Commercial Development
Mike brings a strong 25+ years track record with leading healthcare contract services and product companies. Prior to joining KBI, Mike held senior positions including Vice President Sales, Marketing, and Business Development for Laureate Pharma, Inc. , Vice President Marketing and Sales Support, North America, at Amersham/GE Healthcare, and Senior Director of Business Development Europe for Gene Logic, Inc. Mike has also held senior positions at Life Technologies, bioMerieux, and Baxter Diagnostics. Mike is a graduate of Hahnemann Medical College where he received a Masters in Clinical Microbiology and Fairfield University where he earned a Biology Bachelor of Science Degree.
